Ingredients

For the Salmon:
  • 4 salmon fillets (6 oz each), skin removed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
For the Honey Garlic Glaze:
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Method

  1. Prepare the glaze: In a small saucepan, whisk together honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, brown sugar, grated ginger, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring constantly. Cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Prepare the salmon: Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels and season both sides generously with salt and pepper. Let rest at room temperature for 15 minutes to ensure even cooking.
  3. Heat the pan: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. When oil shimmers, the pan is ready for the salmon.
  4. Sear the salmon: Carefully place salmon fillets in the hot pan. Cook undisturbed for 4-5 minutes until a golden crust forms on the bottom.
  5. Flip and glaze: Flip salmon carefully using a spatula and immediately brush with half the prepared honey garlic glaze. Reduce heat to medium.
  6. Finish cooking: Continue cooking for 3-4 minutes, basting with remaining glaze every minute until salmon reaches 145°F internal temperature and glaze is caramelized.
  7. Serve: Transfer honey garlic glazed salmon to serving plates, drizzle with any remaining pan glaze, and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
