- Peel the onions and cut them in halves or quarters if desired.
- Bring water to a boil in a medium pot and add salt.
- Add the onions to the boiling water and reduce to a simmer.
- Cook for 15–20 minutes until the onions are tender but not mushy.
- Drain the onions and return them to the pot.
- Add butter, garlic, pepper, and herbs, then toss gently to coat.
- Serve warm as a flavorful side dish.
